Still Water Sports In Himachal
The Maharana Pratap Sagar (the Pong Dam reservoir) and its 42 Km length and 2 Km breadth, serves as a substantial inland sea that offers a variety of activities in close collaboration with Himachal Tourism and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali.
Year-long activities include swimming, water-skiing, surfing, kayaking, rowing, canoeing and sailing. The three levels of courses are also conducted as beginner, intermediate and advanced. Facilities and services at the Maharana Pratap Sagar have been expanded in the past few years and now there are substantial buildings that also hold a cafeteria, accommodation and other support services.
Water sports activities are also available on the waters of the Gobind Sagar near Bilaspur, the Chamera Lake near Dalhousie and the Pandoh Lake on the Mandi-Manali highway. Boating is also available on the Renuka lake in the district of Sirmaur. Regattas are organised at different points of year at various places as the dates may vary from year to year.
